Can everything than happens in this universe be scientifically explained? I don't think so, although obviously science plays an incredible role in our daily lives and the world we live in.
The scientific doubters of hypnotherapy want proof in the form of double blind, randomised, placebo controlled, crossover trials. That is what is meant by “scientific data”. Scientists and the medical profession don't like “observational data”.
But some scientists and medical professionals are themselves realising the limiting aspect of proving some things “scientifically”.
A report in the BMJ (British Medical Journal) poked fun at this “scientific proof” method when it looked at the effectiveness of a parachute!
“Conclusions: As with many interventions intended to prevent ill health, the effectiveness of parachutes has not been subjected to rigorous evaluation by using randomised controlled trials. Advocates of evidence based medicine have criticised the adoption of interventions evaluated by using only observational data. We think that everyone might benefit if the most radical protagonists of evidence based medicine organised and participated in a double blind, randomised, placebo controlled, crossover trial of the parachute.”

I have seen first hand incredible “observational data”, i.e. some clients of mine have made miraculous changes to their lives and some have made simple but profound changes, all with the use of hypnotherapy.
Will hypnosis ever be scientifically proven? I don't think it ever will, but some people spend their lives explaining why something can be done, some people spend their lives explaining why something can't be done, and some of us just carry on doing it.
