How does it feel to be hypnotised (hypnotized)?

It feels wonderful! I've discussed in previous posts how we pop in and out of the state of hypnosis many times during the day anyway, but in a therapeutic sense when hypnosis is formally induced the vast majority of my clients feel more relaxed than they have been in years.

The best way to describe the “feeling”, although remember that everyone is unique and however you experience hypnosis it will be special to you, is to liken it to when you snooze in the morning. Remember how comfortable you feel tucked up under your sheets or quilt, you can hear everything going on around you, maybe the kids or a family member going about there business, maybe you can hear the TV or Radio from another room, maybe traffic noise, but you feel so comfortable just laying there with your eyes closed that you just can't be bothered to move, well that is the best way I can describe the feelings you could experience in a therapeutic sense.

Consider also that when professional sportsmen or women are taking a penalty or face match point or are putting to win a game of golf, they are extremely likely to be in a natural state of hypnosis i.e. in a focused state of attention on the putt or shot, and completely oblivious to the crowd noise or TV cameras, so they would not be in the “snooze” state but they absolutely are in a natural state of hypnosis. This applies also to actors and actresses when they change emotional states on film or stage and also to people who run around a stage clucking like chickens during a stage hypnosis show.

So what does it feel like in a therapeutic sense sat in the chair in my office? It feels fantastic.

Be happy,

Dave.

Hi Tracy,
I'll do my best to answer your concerns with the little info I have.
1) How motivated were you to stop? Even a smoker can go without a cigarette for several hours when travelling by plane and if you truly wanted to stop why did you still have cigatettes after the session?
2) The person you saw should have explained that they can't make you stop smoking but they can work with YOUR desire, motivation and commitment to be a non-smoker.
3) Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that you enter many times every day. If you feel that you weren't “hypnotised” perhaps the person you saw didn't explain the process properly before the actual “close your eyes” moment.
Hypnotherapists are as different as chalk & cheese, as night & day. If you are near to me in Watford please give me a call or have a look at the smoking cessation page on my website. If not, phone a few hypnotherapists local to you and find one that you feel comfortable working with. Also, check your motivation before you book an appointment because if you expect the hypnotherapist to do all the work for you, it will be a waste of your money and time.

I would really like to stop smoking and have been hypnotised (sorry if i have spelt it wrong) twice, unfortunately i have walked out of the session and lit a cigarette up straight away. Am I one of those people who cannot be hypnotised?? Please help as all of these NRT treatments do not seem to ork either.
Regards a very frustrated smoker (Tracy)
