Is hypnosis "mind control"?

by Dave Sabat on February 21, 2008

No, absolutely not. No-one can be made to do anything that they don't want to do. In fact, mother nature has given us all wonderful protection mechanisms at many levels and one of these is the simple fact that we are not all gullible, we will not do someone else's bidding simply because they ask us to, unless it is agreeable to us.

It is true to say that some people are more suggestible than others but any good, skilled hypnotherapist will ensure that everyone they see fully understands how the mind works before they even do the “hypnosis”.

Our inbuilt protection ensures that even in hypnosis, if a suggestion, any suggestion, goes against any moral, ethical, spiritual or religious belief that we have then that unacceptable suggestion will be rejected and we could even take ourselves out of hypnosis immediately if the trust is broken.

I could not make someone give me all their money any more than I could make a Man Utd supporter start singing “Blue Moon” or an Arsenal supporter declare their allegiance to the lillywhites or make someone who really enjoys smoking give up smoking.

Hypnotherapy helps people achieve what they want to achieve as opposed to making people do things they don't want to do.

Be happy, but only if you want to be.
