Hypnotherapy FAQ's Hypnosis

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis has been used since ancient times to provide a safe and drug free method of creating desired changes quickly. It is completely natural and there are no unpleasant or unwanted side effects. A hypnotic state allows your unconscious mind to absorb new, acceptable, beneficial suggestions. This hypnotic state is completely natural and if you have ever daydreamed, felt as if you were actually there while reading a book or watching a film, woken in the morning and been so comfy under your sheets or quilt that you couldn’t be bothered to open your eyes but have heard everything going on around you, then you have been in a hypnotic trance at some level! A skilled, professional hypnotherapist helps you to use the state of hypnosis to bring about effective change that you want and that you find acceptable.

Why choose Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to treat medical or psychological problems. It recognises the massive mind-body connection. If we are happy with ourselves mentally we are more likely to be better physically. These beneficial therapies are all about bringing positive and desired changes that you want.

Can I be hypnotised against my will?

There is no power on earth that can stop you being hypnotised except yourself. In other words, if you don’t want to be hypnotised, you won’t be. However, by allowing yourself to be guided in to an enjoyable, relaxing state where positive and desired changes can be made, you allow yourself to be free of old unwanted habits or feelings very quickly.

A-ha, why then do people cluck like chickens at a stage show?

Because they want to. Anyone who appears on stage volunteers to do so, effectively giving the “hypnotist” permission to hypnotise them, and they are never asked to do anything that would go against any strongly held belief. Any volunteer knows that they may be “made” to cluck like a chicken, sing like Elvis or pretend that they have won the lottery before they even set foot on stage and of course they have the perfect get out of jail free card, “He made me do it!” No-one is “made” to do anything; the volunteer allows it and finds it acceptable to do, simply by volunteering. If anyone disagrees with this, please find a stage hypnotist, including Paul McKenna, who would be willing to make a sportsman’s bet that he could “make” Dave run down Watford High Street with his boxer shorts on his head shouting “look at me, I’m from Mars!” Don’t expect any takers. Stage hypnotists get paid to embarrass people whereas a professional, skilled clinical hypnotherapist helps people. There is a massive difference.

Can I be made to say or do anything I don’t want to do?

No. You will not do anything under hypnosis that you would morally or ethically object to if you weren’t under hypnosis. You are always in control. The best example of this is that Dave is still working from his office in Watford as opposed to lying on a beach somewhere because he hypnotised a crack team of SAS soldiers to smuggle him in to Bill Gate’s house where he hypnotised Mr. Gates in to paying him $40 million for his incredible hypnotic skills and was promptly paid!!!! Quite simply, you will not do anything that you don’t want to do and this is why your own motivation to succeed is so important.

Is everything I say confidential?

An ethical, professional and confidential service is guaranteed at all times.

How many sessions will I need?

Helping someone overcome their nail biting habit is completely different from helping someone overcome a near-death experience which has kept them housebound for the last ten years. The aim is always to get you back in control of your own thoughts and feelings as quickly as possible using the minimum number of sessions, whatever you want to achieve. Many changes are made in just one session while it is very rare for any form of problem to require more than seven sessions. You will be given as accurate a guide as possible either during the initial phone call or during your first session.

How long does a session last?

Usually 60 or 90 minutes.

How do I pay?

Payment is usually on a "per session" basis and can be made on the day by cash or cheque with cheque guarantee card. Once an appointment has been confirmed, credit card payments can be made before the appointment, via Paypal.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

Please be sure to phone at least 48 hours in advance in the unlikely event that you need to reschedule your appointment. Failure to do so wastes the appointment time and will result in a 100% cancellation charge.
